CELEBRATIONS  AND  RECOGNITIONS

Friday, June 3 is Love Conquers All Day, National Egg Day, National Doughnut Day, Repeat Day and National Chocolate Macaroon Day. Given the choices of food, I’ll rank my favorites – least favorite to favorite – chocolate macaroons, eggs and then doughnuts. How about you?

Saturday, June 4 is Hug Your Cat Cay, National Cheer Coach Day, National Pineapple Day, National Family Recreation Day and National Trails Day. It’s also National Cheese Day, and according to the International Dairy Foods Association:

  • The most popular cheese recipe in the United States is ‘macaroni and cheese.’
  • There are around 2,000 varieties of cheeses. com has the list of types.
  • Cheese takes up about 1/10 the volume of the milk it was made from.
  • A giant wheel of Cheddar cheese was given to Queen Victoria (1837-1901) for a wedding gift. It weighed over 1,000 pounds. A normal Cheddar wheel weighs 60-75 pounds.

And speaking of cheese, the month is June is also National Dairy Month. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, National Dairy Month started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. It was initially created to stabilize the dairy demand when production was at a surplus, but has now developed into an annual tradition that celebrates the contributions the dairy industry has made to the world. After the National Dairy Council stepped in to promote the cause, the name soon changed to ‘Dairy Month.’

Sunday, June 5 is Hot Air Balloon Day, National Cancer Survivors Day, National Veggie Burger Day, National Frozen Yogurt Day and Pentecost.

Telework Continues for Many U.S. Workers, No Sign of Widespread ‘Zoom Fatigue’
As remote work continues for many Americans, more than half of workers (56%) who say their jobs can mainly be done from home say they often use online platforms to connect with co-workers. Most of these workers say they are fine with the amount of time they spend on video calls, but about one-in-four say they are worn out by it. The use of video calling or online conferencing services, like Zoom or Webex, is particularly common among those whose jobs can be done from home and who are, in fact, working from home all or most of the time. About two-thirds of these workers (66%) say they often use online conferencing services, compared with 49% of those who work from home sometimes and 35% who rarely or never do so. Workers who are new to teleworking during the pandemic are more likely than those who had already been teleworking before the COVID-19 outbreak to use videoconferencing: 77% of those who currently work from home all or most of the time – but rarely or never teleworked previously – say they use these services, compared with 48% who currently telework and did so before the pandemic.

YouTube Rolls Out New Content-specific Creator Analytics For Shorts, Livestreams
The platform has provided Mashable a sneak peek at its new analytics display so that creators can better understand how their different types of content are performing. Creators will likely first notice that the “Reach” and “Engagement” tabs in YouTube Studio’s Analytics have been replaced with a new “Content” tab. Previously, those two tabs broke down viewership, watch time, traffic sources, and other data for the channel’s content as a whole. The new Content tab, however, will provide options to further break down the data by content type. Creators will notice “Video,” “Shorts,” “Live,” and “Posts” tabs that will provide reach and engagement data that previously wasn’t broken down by content-types.

Americans Spend More On Gaming Than Streaming — Or Health And Fitness
Survey finds Americans spend nearly $1,000 per year on gaming, on average, and millennial gamers are estimated to spend more than $66,000 in a lifetime. The average American gamer spends about $76 each month on gaming, including internet services, in-app purchases, new games and gaming equipment, according to a Pollfish survey of 1,000 gamers ages 16 through 65 by All Home Connections, an AT&T authorized sales agent. That adds up to about $912 per year, or $58,000 over the course of an average lifetime. In comparison, recent data shows Americans spending about $564 per year on average for streaming service subscriptions. About one in four reported spending $20 to $35 on health and fitness (including gym memberships), and the second-highest percentage (21%) reported spending nothing on health and fitness.

BONUS CONTENT

Now for some “bonus content” for you as a podcast listener. This is something not included in the weekly TNT Report newsletter. This week’s bonus content is about free stock photo websites.

Is It Dangerous to Use Free Stock Photo Websites?
On the internet, there are a variety of free stock photography websites (both royalty free and free of cost). They include Unsplash, Pixabay, Pexels and many, many more. However, for every site that offers free stock photography, there are dozens of articles saying why you shouldn’t use them. These articles come from a variety of sources including publishing blogs, sites that help those that run churches and even sites that help photographers enforce their images. All this raises a simple question: Just how dangerous are free stock photo websites and, if they are dangerous, what are those particular dangers? To understand that, we have to delve deeper into the potential legal issues that arise from free stock photography websites and why some artists want users to be cautious around them.
