I remember hearing about Twitter not too long after it came out, and I must admit, I thought, “Why in the world would anybody tweet what they were doing or having for lunch. And why would anyone care?”
Now years later, Twitter is a powerful platform. In fact, according to Internet Live Stats, every second, on average, around 6,000 tweets are tweeted on Twitter, which corresponds to over 350,000 tweets sent per minute, 500 million tweets per day and around 200 billion tweets per year.
The first tweet was sent on March 21, 2006 by Jack Dorsey, the creator of Twitter. It took over three years, until the end of May 2009, to reach the billionth tweet.[1] Today, it takes less than two days for one billion tweets to be sent.
So, how can you make your tweet(s) standout from the crowd? Make them more impactful?
Introducing “Voice Tweets,” which let users share snippets of audio to their profile.
According to Neil Patel, Voice Tweets allow you to record your voice as an audio clip and send it in a tweet.
- You can record up to 140 seconds of audio.
- If you need longer, that’s OK. Keep talking, and a new voice tweet starts recording automatically.
- Click or tap the “done” button to finish recording.
- Send your voice tweet(s) from the composer screen, just like you’d send out regular tweets.
- Twitter uses your current profile picture as the placeholder image for the audio. Users click on this image to hear the audio attachment.

BONUS TIP: The picture attached to a voice tweet won’t change, even if you later change your profile picture. So, make sure you are happy with your photo before you start voice tweeting. That way, your messages and brand are consistent and it makes it easier for users to find you again in the future.
Finally … here’s an interesting, perhaps scary fact from Internet Live Stats: Whether you are a regular tweeter or only just sent a single tweet in the past, your “body of work” is now part of the Library of Congress. Twitter has in fact agreed to provide the largest library in the world with every public tweet ever sent, and to continue to supply tweets to the Library’s archive on an ongoing basis.
