I’ve been thinking about this kind of “feature” for a while now. I’m calling it “Thoughtful Thursday.”
And while it will mostly be a thoughtful quote graphic with a paragraph or two of my thoughts, my intent is for it to be different than my “Motivation Monday” posts, which are truly more, well … motivational.
Thoughtful Thursdays will also be quote graphics, but will be sayings or quotes that make us think and perhaps even spark a discussion.
And this first one I think is a great example of what I’m hoping to post on Thursdays — not promising every week, but on somewhat of a regular basis.
Today’s “Thoughtful Thursday” quote is from Celeste Headlee, a radio journalist, author, public speaker, and co-host of the weekly series “Retro Report” on PBS.
“There is no belief so strong that it cannot be set aside temporarily in order to learn from someone who disagrees.”
~ Celeste Headlee
Definitely powerful and a thought provoking quote.
Why can’t we learn from someone we disagree with? And why can’t we have civil disagreements and debates like we used to, instead of arguments where no one listens to the other viewpoint? And often times are rude in the process!
Thoughtful Thursday: There is no belief so strong that it cannot be set aside temporarily in order to learn from someone who disagrees. Celeste Headlee Share on XI’m not suggesting that viewpoints will be changed in every debate — even often or ever — but civil debate is fundamental to who we are as Americans. The right to be who we want to be and believe in what we want to believe.
And as the old saying goes, “I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight for your right to say it.”
Let’s get back to fighting for the right to speak your opinion that fighting the person with the opinion. If we do, maybe we’ll all learn something in the end, and all be better humans for it.
