Thermal Printing for FBA Shipping Labels

I noticed last week when I sent an order of CDs and a few books in to Amazon that I could print the shipping label on my thermal printer — I use the Dymo LabelWriter 4XL (affiliate link) for the shipping/mailing labels for Amazon and eBay and the Dymo Label Writer 450 (affiliate link) for product labels — from inside Seller Central as I was finalizing the order. Then this week I got the news from Amazon in their seller email newsletter.

According to the announcement, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) sellers in North America now have the option to print FBA box and pallet labels using the thermal printing format (4 x 6 inches) when creating shipments to Amazon fulfillment centers.

Previously, FBA supported only printing on standard paper in letter format, where multiple labels are printed on the same page and need to be cut out. I got tired of printed them on paper and taping them down, so then I went with a full label sheet that had two labels per page before I discovered that I could use UPS labels in my inkjet printer.

Thermal printing allows you to print labels individually. This simplifies handling, improves label readability, and makes it easier to match labels to the correct boxes and pallets.

It’s also so much easier for me, being lazy, since my thermal printers are right next to me. My wireless printer is at my shipping station down the hall and home office inkjet printer is upstairs.

As a friend of mine always says … “First world problems!”
