While SlideShare continues to be popular, Slidecasts will soon be discontinued. According to the company, “usage hasn’t been as widespread as we had hoped, and we have decided to discontinue this feature on SlideShare.”
Slidecasts Discontinued
The company has announced that effective Feb. 28, the ability to create Slidecasts will cease.
If you’re a current user though and have Slidecasts, you won’t lose your presentations totally. On April 30, existing Slidecasts will be converted to static SlideShare presentations.
Creators can download their Slidecasts from their “My Uploads” section by April 30, 2014. After April 30, we’ll convert existing Slidecasts (on the SlideShare site and embeds on other sites) into static presentations, so that there is not complete loss of content.
Slidecast began in 2007 to allow users to pair audio with their slides.
We are sad that Slidecast is going away, but we want to focus on improving and adding SlideShare features that will resonate with more users. Thank you for your support. The SlideShare team
With the popularity of YouTube and video, it’s kind of surprising that Slidecasts didn’t catch on.
What do you think? Do you believe there’s a market for slidecasts and that Slideshare is making a mistake?
