[dropcap]P[/dropcap]enguin and Panda… now “disavow links” from Google. In the video below, Matt Cutts explains the disavow links feature of Google Webmaster Tools.

According to Google’s Webmaster Central blog post on the topic, “the vast, vast majority of sites do not need to use this tool in any way. If you’re not sure what the tool does or whether you need to use it, you probably shouldn’t use it.”

If you’ve been notified of a manual spam action based on “unnatural links” pointing to your site, this tool can help you address the issue. If you haven’t gotten this notification, this tool generally isn’t something you need to worry about.

When you first visit the disavow links page, you’ll first select the site (as seen below).

You’ll then be prompted to upload a file containing the links you want to disavow.

By giving webmasters the power to “report” bad links they have essentially “crowd-sourced” link-spam detection. … This spells disaster for any site that makes it too easy to get a link back to your site.

Ware notes, “… this Disavow Links Tool has changed the SEO game once again. This is perhaps, the most significant change in the history of SEO.”
